Simplicity defined with a wrap-around porch, showcased as Country Living’s House of the Year in 2014, the four gabled farm design is a charming and distinctive American home, with a wide wrap around porch and a steep-pitched roof. Defined by an open yet not delineated first floor. A central staircase divides the living room, dining room and kitchen without creating small compartments or rooms. The second floor opens to three bedrooms and a full bathroom (or two). The walk out basement is optionally finished to create additional living space, as with most of our homes, if the land supports it.
The design checks a lot of boxes for our clients. The steep, gabled roof helps keep the upstairs cool in summer, while the wrap-around porch offers plenty of shaded space for outdoor living and dining. We love the symmetry of this design– its simplicity and modern layout. An inspired but distressed farmhouse on a lonely outpost road in Fremont, NY, in Sullivan County, sparked the Catskill Farms idea. Chuck drove past this house for years. “That’s a perfect little house,” he thought.
